Vehicle & Asset tracker - product design
BOX telematics was established in 2000. Previously operating as the Mobilefone Group - Box was formed to exploit the growing opportunity within the 'wire-free' telemetry market.
3Minds were retained by Box to provide innovation and design thinking to create their first medium volume product. Targeted sales of 100,000 units in the first 3 years will provide a solid base for a range of products to be introduced globally and make them a leader in their field.
Working together a specification for a 'compact and robust' vehicle and asset tracking device was drawn up that would make use of a new Telit module. The parts had to be encased in a 'rapid to assemble' - one time, snap-fit designed enclosure.
Handmade models and simple CAD visuals were presented to illustrate styling options.
Stereo-lithographic rapid prototypes were made to evaluate clip features and mechanical assembly.
Liaison with suppliers throughout the tooling phase was carried out to ensure the product met the required standards for mechanical testing.
Educational training equipment - product design
3Minds were approached by Bytronic to apply our new product development skills to their PCT100 Process Control trainer. The project involved complete system design of the Control Product and the Rig interface.
The product has a silkscreened Aluminium front panel, Zintec fabricated chassis, connector plates, PSU brackets and an ABS Thermoformed rear.
The client has been provided with 3D CAD files and detailed manufacturing drawings. 3Minds has also liaised closely with the clients' suppliers through the prototyping phase and beyond to ensure manufacturability.
